LO-FI FIREPLACE

A bedroom somewhere in the mountains, just after the snow started. A fire in the hearth, a cat asleep in someone's arms, the neighbours' windows going warm one by one. Put it on for an evening, a study session, or the whole night.

The room is one long loop, tuned until the seam disappeared, and your device's video chip plays it the same way it plays a film. That is the whole trick: it runs all night without getting warm, and on a 4K television it really is 4K.

Under everything sits a recording of an actual fire. Rain, wind, crickets and vinyl crackle have faders of their own, so your evening does not have to sound like mine. The sleep timer takes a full minute to fade out, because nothing should end suddenly at 1 am. Screen off, it keeps playing like any proper music app.

The radio is one station and everyone is on it together: start it on two phones and both are in the same second of the same song. The music is by independent lo-fi artists who said yes when I asked them.
